ABOUT OUR CHURCH

Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

–John 14:6

OUR HISTORY

In 1935, pioneer minister and Evangelist Howard Johnson and four other members founded the Newark Church of Christ, the first African-American Church of Christ serving African-Americans in New Jersey.

In 1951, Evangelist Johnson was called to serve as the minister of the Harlem Church of Christ where he served for 13 years.  Upon leaving Harlem, in 1964, Evangelist Johnson and those four members came to Montclair, New Jersey and founded the Montclair Church of Christ where he ministered until his passing on January 28, 2007.

Brother Raymond Wright was then chosen to lead the congregation and led it until he retired in September 2019.  Upon his retirement, Assistant Minister Willie L. Parker, Esq., LL.M, C:TM, was promoted to Minister where he is continuing the legacy of giving and community service begun by our founder, Evangelist Howard Johnson.
